AI consultant for Bridgend businesses

AlphaOps is an AI automation consultancy for Bridgend businesses, working from our Cardiff office about 35 minutes along the M4. We find where your team’s hours go, automate the repetitive parts inside the systems you already use, and keep those automations running month after month.

Why AlphaOps

Part of an IT company already working in Bridgend

We’re the automation side of Alphabyte IT, the Cardiff-based IT management firm that already works with businesses in Bridgend.

Alphabyte IT has managed IT, Microsoft 365 and support since 2009. It holds Microsoft Partner status and Cyber Essentials certification. Its founder, Ross Owen, started in IT in 2000 and has specialised in legal and professional services firms ever since.

So we treat automation as part of your IT, not a bolt-on. We check how your systems connect, agree changes with your IT provider, and stick to business-grade AI: Claude from Anthropic, used through its business service, which keeps your data out of model training and comes under a data processing agreement.

From Cardiff to Bridgend

Remote for the build, on site for the people

Bridgend is about 22 miles from our office, roughly 35 minutes along the M4 when the traffic is kind. Most work is remote, and we plan visits for the moments that matter: the audit if you’d like it in person, mapping a process with the people who do it, and launch day. Visits cost travel expenses only.

Bridgend’s economy

Manufacturing, the motorway and a seaside resort

Bridgend’s economy is built around its industrial estates and the M4.

The council’s county borough profile names the town centre, Bridgend Industrial Estate, Waterton Industrial Estate, Bridgend Science Park and Pencoed Technology Park as the main places people work. At Pencoed, Sony’s UK Technology Centre makes professional broadcast equipment and builds Raspberry Pi computers, continuing a Sony presence in Bridgend that began in 1974.

Three M4 junctions (35 to 37) fall within the county borough, and main-line trains stop at Bridgend, so it’s a natural base for firms covering both Cardiff and Swansea. On the coast, Porthcawl is the county’s seaside resort, and plans for its waterfront include new leisure, hospitality and retail space around Salt Lake Harbour.

What that means

Smaller firms, big-company paperwork

Around the big names sit smaller suppliers, engineers, hauliers, installers and contractors. They often face the same paperwork as a large manufacturer, such as quality records, certificates, purchase orders and delivery notes, without the admin team to handle it.

If you have people on the road between Cardiff and Swansea all day, the notes and promises from each visit tend to end up in a van rather than in the system. That’s where we’d look first.

For Porthcawl’s hospitality and leisure businesses the pressure is different: enquiries and bookings that peak with the season and leave little time for anything else.

Cost

Prices in plain numbers

The audit is free and normally worth £290. If you want one automation and nothing else, we quote a fixed price, worked out from £145 + VAT per hour, and there’s no ongoing commitment.

For continuing help there’s Monthly AI Support: Essentials at £459 + VAT a month including four hours, or Growth at £859 + VAT a month including eight hours and a quarterly review. Each runs for at least 12 months, and hours you don’t use roll over to the next month.

Support in Bridgend

Grants and local help

Bridgend County Borough Council’s Enterprise Team offers advice on premises, recruitment, skills and training, and funding and grants, and runs networking through the Bridgend Business Forum. Business Wales advises businesses across Wales.

Funding for this kind of work comes and goes, often tied to a sector or to training, so check what’s open before counting on it. If something fits, we’ll help you work through it.

Questions

Before you book: Bridgend questions

Our engineers are out on site most of the day. Can automation still help?

Yes, and often most of all. If your team rings the office or a customer from site, call summaries and follow-up tasks can be created automatically. If job sheets are still on paper, the first step may be a simple digital form, and the audit will tell you whether that’s worth doing before anything cleverer.

We tried ChatGPT and it made things up. Why would this be different?

Because we don’t ask it to guess. Our automations work from your own documents and data, check their output against simple rules, and send anything uncertain to a person. AI can still get things wrong, which is why those checks are built in from the start. Read more about AI hallucination.

How long before the first automation is working?

It depends on the job. It depends on the job, but a simple first automation can often be running within weeks of the audit, once it has been tested against your own emails and documents. Your report sets out the order we’d tackle things in, so you start with the one that pays back soonest.

We’re thinking of changing IT provider anyway. Can you help?

That’s Alphabyte IT’s side of the business rather than ours. Alphabyte IT already works with businesses in Bridgend, and moving your support usually takes one email from you. There’s no obligation either way: AlphaOps works alongside whichever IT company you choose.
