AI consultant for Pontypridd businesses
AlphaOps is an AI consultancy that automates the repetitive work in Pontypridd businesses: shared inboxes, emailed orders and documents, calls, meeting notes and staff onboarding. We’re based in Cardiff, roughly 20 minutes down the A470, so we’re quick to reach when a job needs someone on site.
Automation from people who run IT for a living
We look after the systems first and add AI where it earns its place.
AlphaOps is the AI-automation side of Alphabyte IT, a Cardiff IT management company that has supported businesses across South Wales since 2009. Ross Owen, who founded both, has worked in IT since 2000, much of it for solicitors, accountancy practices and other professional firms.
- Alphabyte IT is a Microsoft Partner, certified to Cyber Essentials
- You see where your data will go before we build anything
- Keep your current IT provider: we work alongside them
Close enough to drop in
The build, testing and day-to-day support happen remotely, inside your systems. Pontypridd is close enough that the audit usually works best at your premises, with the people who do the work.
If a launch, a training session or a problem needs someone in the room, we can often be with you the same day. Visits cost travel expenses only.

Factories, a university and a rebuilt town centre
Pontypridd is often called the gateway to the Valleys, and its businesses are a real mix.
Just south of the town, Treforest Industrial Estate has housed factories since its site was chosen in 1936, and still has industrial units, trade premises and a business centre of serviced offices and workshops. Firms like these run on orders, drawings, delivery notes and certificates, often emailed and then typed in by hand.
The University of South Wales also has its Treforest campus here. If you take on graduates or placement students, you’ll know the same questions come up with every new intake: where’s the template, how do I log this, who signs it off?
The town centre has changed too. Transport for Wales has its headquarters at Llys Cadwyn, which it said would initially house around 300 of its staff, and the line to Cardiff was electrified in 2023 for the South Wales Metro. If your people move between Pontypridd, home and Cardiff, much of their week probably happens in Teams meetings.
Where we’d start in Pontypridd
Each kind of business has its own pinch point:
- On the industrial estate: emailed orders and paperwork re-keyed into your system
- Firms taking on new people: onboarding that depends on whoever has time that week
- Hybrid teams: meetings that end without anyone writing up the actions
- Anyone with a busy phone line: callbacks promised, then forgotten
Not everything is worth automating. If an Outlook rule or the Power Automate included in Microsoft 365 business plans would do the job, we’ll say so.
Common automations for Pontypridd businesses
The jobs we’d expect to look at first. Your audit report ranks them by what each could save.
Orders and quotes on the estate
Emailed orders read into your system, quotes drafted from your price list, and delivery notes matched to invoices.
Every new intake, onboarded the same way
Onboarding videos made for your business, a welcome pack, policy sign-offs and a manager’s checklist for each new starter.
Answers from your own handbook
Staff ask in plain English and get answers from your own procedures, with a link to the source.
Minutes for hybrid teams
Teams meetings turned into minutes and actions in your own template, then filed automatically.
The info@ mailbox
Every email sorted, logged and sent to whoever deals with it, with a reply drafted for someone to check and send.
Calls that need a follow-up
Calls summarised into the customer record and callbacks turned into tasks, or a weekly missed-call report if your phones can’t record.
What a Pontypridd business would pay
The same as anyone else. The audit is free (normally £290). A single automation is a fixed quote at our standard rate of £145 + VAT an hour, with no minimum term.
Or join Monthly AI Support: Essentials costs £459 + VAT monthly and includes four hours of work; Growth is £859 + VAT with eight hours and a quarterly review. Both include our standard pack of automations, with a 12-month minimum term, and any hours you don’t use carry over.
Is there help with the cost?
Possibly, but don’t count on it. Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Prosperity and Development Division offers business support and help with premises, and Business Wales, the Welsh Government’s service, advises firms across Wales.
Schemes change often and many are for particular sectors or for training, so check before you plan around a grant. If one applies, we’ll help with the details.
Questions about working with us in Pontypridd
How quickly can you get to us in Pontypridd?
Our office is by Rhymney River Bridge Road in Cardiff, about 10 miles away, or roughly 20 minutes up the A470 on a clear road. Most work is remote, and if a job needs us on site we can often be with you the same day, for travel expenses only.
Could a placement student from the university build this for us instead?
For a simple flow, possibly. The harder part is after they leave: someone has to monitor it, fix it when a supplier changes their invoice layout, and handle client data properly. That ongoing care is what Monthly AI Support covers, and we’re happy to work alongside a student.
We’re a small manufacturer. Is there enough admin to be worth automating?
Sometimes not, and the audit will say so. As a rough example, keying in 40 emailed orders a week at five minutes each takes over three hours a week. If your numbers are smaller, a better template may be the right answer.
Will our data be used to train AI?
No. Our automations use Claude, made by Anthropic, on its business service: your data isn’t used to train its models, and a data processing agreement covers how it’s handled. For the most confidential jobs, we’ll soon be able to run AI in-house on our own hardware in Cardiff.
Need your IT looked after too?
Alphabyte IT, our sister company, has looked after IT, security and support for businesses across South Wales since 2009.
